Lesson Plan Outline "Our Cultural Heritage"

Final Computer-based Project: Students create cards for a class multimedia stack titled "Our Cultural Heritage"

 

Teacher’s role and Preparation:

Creates "My heritage Interview" handout

Prepares material and Classroom equipment: Hyperstudio, Inspiration, a digital camera, projection equipment. Prepares the list of the recommended culture-related web-sites

 

Students: 

8 Japanese ESL students (intermediate level)

 

Pre-activities: (Previous lesson)

After interviewing family members about their beliefs, values, knowledge and customs, (handout) students are paired up to conduct the research on the computer for Photos, costumes, pictures describing customs and traditions of their country of origin. The students also collected the pictures of the family members and themselves celebrating traditional holidays of the country of origin.

 

Task 1.

Open the "cultural heritage" stack. Click on the People Button to select it.

The teacher demonstrated how to select the "Copy Card" and then "Paste Card" from the Edit menu. When the students had copied and pasted the card, they do the following to complete it:

 

Task 2.

Place two digitized and scanned photos, clip art or drawings to illustrate people from their cultural heritage in the blank photo spaces at the top of the page.

 

Task 3.

Describe the pictures in the box below them. Elaborate on the topic using the data about the beliefs and values of the family members they interviewed.

 

Task 4.

Find a costume from their cultural heritage to place it in one of the picture spaces

 

Task 5. Based on the Inspiration Software (optional)

Find the Flag of the country of your cultural heritage and insert it in your stack. Briefly describe the flag’s history.

 

Task 6.

Click on the "Celebrations" button to select it. Copy and paste the card and do the following to complete it.

Place two digitized and scanned photos, clip art or drawings to illustrate special customs and holiday celebrations of their cultural heritage in the two blank photo spaces at the top of the page.

 

Task 7.

Describe the pictures.

 

Task 8.

Add buttons and sounds to move through the completed stack.

Teacher and students work together:

Using projection equipment, run through the stack and have the students present and read the pages they completed.
