A novel set during the Vietnam War and 'el movimiento' of the Hispanic Americans of the early 1970's.
Jesse and his brother Abel are young Mexican Americans living in a small town in California. After some trouble with their stepfather, they move away from home and start a new life on their own. They earn their money with hard field work and some other jobs.
Jesse struggles very hard to find himself and a meaningful life in spite
of the limits placed on him by poverty and prejudice.
