Abstract:
What are the means of competence orientation in political education? Until recently it appeared that there was a broader consensus in this matter in the didactics of the subject. In reference to the competence model of Georg Weißeno, Joachim Detjen, Ingo Juchler, Peter Massing and Dagmar Richter, as presented in “Concepts of Politics”, it becomes evident that below the surface of such consent are very different conceptions of competence orientation for the political education.
Therefore, the book at hand presents an alternative approach, deliberatly emphasizing concepts of political education. The authors aim to contribute to the debate with this Controversial Discussion. They want to explore the possibilities and limitations of competence orientation without dismissing the achieved quality criteria of good teaching in political education of the last decades.
