The here presented work pursues the question of how political actors in
the Federal Republic of Germany have dealt with political education. Thus, it
is to be understood as a political history of the subject. It covers several
periods, starting from efforts of the occupying allied forces after 1945, the
political controversies of the 1970s and coming to an end with the challenges
of the 1990s after the German reunification
