Degree Courses
The Gießen English Department offers various degree courses with English as a major or a minor subject. Our courses have now been fully modularised: if you are starting your studies, you will opt for one of our Bachelor degree courses with the possibility to apply for a Master's afterwards or for the Teaching English as a Foreign language (Lehramt) study course.
Bachelor (with English Studies as a major or a minor subject):
Master (with English Studies as a major, a minor, or "Studienelement"):
- MA Modern Languages and Linguistics (MLL)
In the MA Modern Languages and Linguistics, students can choose English Linguistics (ELI) as a major,
a minor, or a study element. It can be combined with other languages. - MA Neuere Fremdsprachen und Fremdsprachendidaktik (NFF)
In the MA Neuere Fremdsprachen und
Fremdsprachendidaktik (NFF), English Cultural Studies (ECS), English
Literary Studies (ELS), English Linguistics (ELI) and Teaching English as a
Foreign Language (TEFL) can be combined with French, Spanish, Portuguese and the
didactics for teaching these languages. This combination needs to contain two
foreign languages and the didactics for teaching these two languages. This MA
is made up of one major and two study elements; one of these has to be the
didactics for teaching the major language. - MA Moderne Fremdsprachen, Kulturen und Wirtschaft (MFKW)
In the MA Moderne Fremdsprachen, Kulturen und
Wirtschaft (MFKW) English Linguistics (ELI), English Cultural Studies
(ECS), or English Literary Studies (ELS) can be chosen as a major or a study
element. This MA is made up of one major and two study elements. The second of
these study elements is comprised of Business Economics or Political Economics.
This MA can be combined with French, Spanish, Portuguese, Russian, Czech, or
Polish. - MA Sprache - Literatur - Kultur (SLK)
In the MA Sprache, Literatur, Kultur (SLK),
students can choose English Linguistics (ELI), English Cultural Studies (ECS)
or English Literary Studies (ELS) as a major, a minor, or a study element.
These disciplines can be combined widely within and outside of faculty 05.
