The M.A. on Interdisciplinary Studies on Eastern Europe begins with an interdisciplinary module consisting of an advanced seminar on Eastern Europe in one of the subjects participating in GiZo, followed by an interdisciplinary colloquium. Both the GiZo teaching staff and GiZo students will participate in this colloquium. The projects under investigation will each cover at least two disciplines. From the very outset of the M.A., therefore, students will learn how to examine interdisciplinary questions concerning Eastern Europe.

In various modules, students will learn how to independently plan, develop and conduct their own projects concentrating on Eastern Europe. Alternatively, they can substitute this project with an internship in Eastern Europe or in an institution cooperating with the region.

In accordance with the programme’s interdisciplinary nature, the Masters’ thesis should consist of two subject elements, with the larger element being the major subject. However, the thesis may also be written exclusively in the major subject.
