Mechanisms of gene repression by the tumor suppressor kinase HIPK2
The serine/threonine kinase HIPK2 phosphorylates and interacts with various
components of chromatin regulating enzymes. In the first part of this project, HIPK2
containing chromatin regions are identified by ChIP-Seq. The role of SUMOylation of
HIPK2 and its interaction partner polycomb protein Pc2 for protein/protein interactions,
chromatin recruitment and gene expression will be investigated. The second part of this
project will analyze the functional consequences of HIPK2 and Pc2 and their SUMO
modification for chromatin modification and regulation of the HoxB gene clusters.
