Balancing cell differentiation and proliferation by Polycomb group proteins
The evolutionarily conserved Polycomb group (PcG) proteins modulate chromatin structure to regulate developmental gene expression. PcG factors function at the crossroads of chromatin regulation, stem cell biology, development and disease. In this proposal we use Drosophila as our main model organism because it allows an integrated combination of developmental genetics, biochemistry, proteomics and genomics. We will use this to understand how Polycomb group proteins couple cell differentiation to proliferation control.
