4th International Workshop Rauischholzhausen
Novel Molecular Targets for Improvement of Crop Resistance as a Measure against Global Famine
Topic
There is already a good tradition for the International Workshops organized by the DFG research groups 343 and 666 in the castle of Rauischholzhausen. Whilst topics center always on general phytopathology we try to select current topics of basic scientific interest that rebind to agronomic aspects. The 4th workshop will focus on sustainable plant improvements by novel strategies including Host-Induced Gene Silencing to cope with emerging famine problems due to climate change and economic market breaks.
Progress in comparative genome research and systematic analysis of gene function has been generated a valuable basis for answering important questions on how microbes interfere with signal transduction and plant physiology in order to get access to host tissue and nutrients. The information can be used for more sophisticated strategies to improve the plants’ agronomical performance. New technologies such as HIGS are now available to exploit experimental data for a qualitative step forwards to fight world famine.
Participants of the workshops in 2001 on Durable Resistance, in 2003 on Mechanisms of Disease Susceptibility, and in 2007 on Compatibility Pathways acknowledged the productive atmosphere of the Rauischholzhausen castle facilities. For this reason and because of limited space, the 4th workshop again will be open to a limited number of scientists, who are willing to contribute oral or poster presentations and to actively participate in discussions.
The castle of Rauischholzhausen is a conference facility of the Justus Liebig University Giessen. Besides seminar rooms there is also overnight accommodations in the castle itself.
The castle is located at the boarder of a small village with the same name amidst an impressive scenery near Giessen, approximately 80 km north of Frankfurt (Main).
Giessen is easily reached by train from Frankfurt central railway station, which is closely connected to the Frankfurt airport.
