Doctoral Positions in Pulmonary Research in Germany
The International Graduate Program “Molecular Biology and Medicine of the Lung” (MBML) is the leading educational platform of the University of Giessen Lung Center at the Justus Liebig University in Giessen, Germany. We are now seeking highly qualified and motivated individuals for full-time doctoral studies in several areas of lung physiology and pathology. Research topics include genetic programmes that drive early and late lung development, the genetic and physiological basis of pulmonary diseases, including pulmonary hypertension; acute lung injury and pulmonary oedema; lung fibrosis, lung cancer, chronic obstructive pulmonary disease, including emphysema; cystic fibrosis; lung transplantation; fungal, viral and bacterial infections of the lung; and bronchopulmonary dysplasia. The research is undertaken in a dynamic and exciting research environment. The University of Giessen Lung Center is one of the world’s leading pulmonary centres, and is recognised for excellence both in basic scientific research and in the clinical management of patients with lung disease.
Applications are welcomed from candidates trained in any biological discipline, and well as applicants with a primary degree in human or veterinary medicine. Students will receive a monthly stipend, and depending on their qualifications and the projects selected, may be eligible to register for one of the four doctoral degrees offered, including the PhD, the Dr rer. Nat., the Dr. biol. Hum. and the Dr. med. Candidates must be in possession of a Master’s degree in the life sciences or equivalent, or a primary degree in human or veterinary medicine, by 1st October 2011. Candidates will be expected to attend an interview in Giessen prior to formal acceptance (all expenses will be covered by the University of Giessen), and are free to start their laboratory research any time after that interview.
