Gerhild Euler has focused her main research interests on the cellular mechanisms of heart failure. She investigates the signalling pathways of cardiac hypertrophy and apoptosis, since in the development of heart failure changes in intracellular signalling lead to phenotypic changes of the cardiomyocytes and eventually to their apoptotic cell death. It is the goal of heart research to identify key processes in these pathophysiological mechanisms that can be influenced therapeutically.

Teaching:

Gerhild Euler teaches the entire field of physiology and pathophysiology for medical and dentistry students. She teaches graduate students from the faculties of human medicine, veterinary medicine, and biology. She invites students to get a working experience in experimental lab work, convinced that the fascination of science is cannot be awakened in lecture halls She offers various courses for the graduate educational programs of the university.

Other Activities:

Gerhild Euler is an Associate Editor in the Giessen editorial team of “Cardiovascular Research” and a reviewer for several international journals on topics in cardiac signal transduction and remodelling. She is member of the German and European Societies of Cardiology.
