Welcome
One focal point in this section is the International Graduate Program "Molecular Biology and Medicine of the Lung", which investigates the molecular physiology of the lung at the interface of basic sciences and clinical medicine. Particular emphasis is put on the discovery of molecular mechanisms underlying diseases of the respiratory system and respective new therapies. The second major focus is the International Research Training Group "Protecting the heart from Ischemia", which centers upon pathomechanisms of the ischemic heart disease, the most eminent single cause of death in industrialised countries. Research projects address the underlying causes of the coronary vessel disease, myocardial cell injury by ischemia and reperfusion, and strategies for tissue regeneration.
