Research in this section is forwarded by our faculty with research interests in neuroscience as shared by many departments, including clinical medicine, psychology, and veterinary medicine. It includes a wide range of topics from molecular mechanisms of neural information processing to neurosurgery and neuropsychology. Overarching research areas are cerebrovascular disease, neuroimmunology and cognitive neurosciences, specifically pain, the interaction between the immune system and the brain as well as the neuronal basis of cognition and emotion. Research is conducted with animal models, patients and healthy volunteers. With respect to methodological issues a broad range of techniques relevant for nearly all research questions in neuroscience is available in many labs.
