German Intensive Courses in Preparation for Academic Study

JLU Giessen operates a six-step program throughout the academic year, taking you gradually from beginners' level to the TestDaF and DSH. The interlinked program is run by JLU in collaboration with the University of Applied Sciences (THM).
1. Courses offered:In six stages taking up the whole academic year, you can proceed from beginners' level (A1) through levels A2, B1, B2 and C1.1 up to level C1.2 of the DSH examination (the prerequisite for taking up a course of academic study) or the TestDaF (the Test of German as a Foreign Language). These intensive courses are aimed at individual foreign students applying to JLU Giessen and the University of Applied Sciences (THM). However, doctoral students, students on official exchange programs (ERASMUS, ISEP etc.), and visiting researchers and their dependants can also participate. You can enter the program at any of the levels listed. The detailed timetable for the courses can be found in our current schedule. A course comprises 20 lessons per week and lasts for 6-8 weeks. You can get 6 ECTS Credits for each course.
After completion of course C1.2, it is possible to sit a final exam, the passing of which entitles you to an official certificate.
2. Registration for German Intensive Courses in Preparation for Academic StudyYou can register for these courses at any time. But try to do so as early as you can, as the maximum capacity per course is 16 participants. There are different registration procedures, depending on the category you come under (e.g. applying for a degree course or attending the University as an exchange student):
