2 Career Development Grants

The transition from writing your dissertation to a postdoctoral academic career poses an obstacle for many early career researchers: Besides wrapping up your doctoral project, e.g. publishing your manuscript, you need to develop a new research proposal, find university employment or independent research funding, write various types of applications and hone your academic profile in order to find a position that will allow you to further pursue a career in academia and academia-related fields. In order to give our outstanding alumni the possibility to develop their own postdoctoral research proposal, the GCSC is offering

Up 2 Career Development Grants for the duration of 6 months each

This scholarship should allow members of the GCSC who are about to complete their doctoral projects or recently have completed to develop and work on a research project with which they will apply for a postdoctoral position. Moreover, it will give them time for further academic networking and to develop their profile as early career researchers.

The GCSC wishes to advance equal opportunities and to enable underrepresented groups to pursue careers in academia. Therefore, applicants will be assessed not only with regard to their academic excellence and involvement in their doctoral programme, but also with regard to their personal circumstances and possible disadvantages in order to achieve equal access to academic careers.

The funding encompasses a monthly stipend of the same amount as the doctoral stipend (basis amount 1.365 € + materials cost allowance 103 €); where applicable, family allowances will be granted. In addition to that, networking activities will be supported: During the programme, you can apply for travel grants of up to 1,000 € total. Scholarship holders are encouraged to keep making use of the GCSC’s curricular and counselling services. The scholarship is expressly directed at members who do not have access to other sources of funding after the end of their doctoral studies.

Please find further details concerning the criteria of selection and the formal requirements of the application on the leaflet below.
