Combining Career & Family
Scholars with children face manifold challenges in successfully aligning their PhD with parenthood. In this central stage of their career, PhD students not only need free time for their PhD but also have to participate in conferences and write publications or teach.
Therefore, the GCSC supports PhD students who are or become parents during their membership at the GCSC. We want to pay tribute to the manifold challenges which scholars with children face. Our unique program "Combining Family and Graduate Studies" wants to create a child-friendly atmosphere and a supportive surrounding to enable the combination of scholarship and parenthood.
On the following pages we'll not only introduce you to our program, but also provide you with helpful
information on obtaining a doctorate while raising a family.

PARENT NETWORK MEET-UP
During this year’s parent network meet-up, parents (and parents-to-be) of the GCSC, IPP and the GGK will have the opportunity to meet informally, ask questions, make connections and exchange information. We especially invite doctoral candidates to join us, but senior researchers as well as GCSC, IPP and GGK staff are more than welcome as well. Please feel explicitly invited to bring your partners and children along; of course, doctoral candidates and postdocs without children are also welcome to attend.
We invite you to join us on the 12th of July between 4:00 PM and 8:00 PM at the GCSC. There will be coffee, cake and cold drinks. If the weather is as good as we hope, the meadow behind the GCSC building can be used as a playground.
