Prof. Josiane Etang is Associate Professor of Medical Entomology at the Faculty of Medicine and Pharmaceutical Sciences (FMPS) at the University of Douala-Cameroon. Her professional career outside of academia includes Vector Control strategic planning, as Principal Expert at Organization for the Coordination of Endemic diseases’ control in Central Africa (OCEAC), Yaounde/Cameroon since 2007. She has extensive international experience in vector borne diseases and mosquito control consulting and advisory work, with a variety of scientific networks and societies in Africa and worldwide.  She is Co-chair of the Integrated Vector Management (IVM) work stream ofthe Roll Back malaria Vector Control Working Group (RBM-VCWG).

She earned Bachelor’s and Master’s degrees, and PhD in Parasitology at the Faculty of Sciences of the University of Yaoundé I (Cameroon); then started her research career as a junior scientist in 2002, at the Institute of Medical Research and Studies of Medicinal Plants (IMPM), Ministry of Scientific Research and Innovation in Cameroon.

Amongst the others, she established an international collaboration with the research group led by Prof. Dr. Marc F. Schetelig at the Institute of Insect Biotechnology. Her research interests involve the development of high throughput methods for insecticide testing, dose response assays and genetics of vector resistance to insecticides, Vector Biology and Control, understanding the implication of insecticide resistance for Vector control interventions, field and laboratory evaluation new tools and products for mosquito control, including bioactive ingredients.
