Research Interests

 

Invasive alien species (IAS) pose serious threats to the ecosystem and agricultural production worldwide. Dr. Yan studied the invasion mechanisms, as well as the control methods of IAS. Genetic pest management (GPM) programs like sterile insect technique (SIT) and release of insects carrying a dominant lethal (RIDL) are environment-friendly, species-specific and highly effective ways to contain or eradicate IAS before they are established. Dr. Yan has been working on building male-only strains of economically important agricultural pests, which will facilitate the area-wide GPM programs. He is also interested in developing novel GPM strategies involving different genome-editing methods.
