Contact for Registration as a Doctoral Candidate

Several internationally acknowledged doctoral degrees are issued by our 5 faculties. These are Dr. med., Dr. med. dent., Dr. biol. hom., Dr. med. vet., Dr. biol. anim., Dr. rer. nat., Dr. agr. and Dr. oec. troph. Most of these are specific to the faculty that issues them. None of these titles are automatically issued after passing examinations, but reflect completion of a full research project including a thesis and oral defence.

 

In addition, the Faculties of Medicine and Veterinary Medicine of the Justus Liebig University allow for the demands of internationally oriented young researchers to obtain the title of “Doctor of Philosophy” (PhD). This title can be achieved if thesis work is conducted over a three-year period and the accompanying course programme is fully completed.

 

Even if you did not studied medicine or veterinary medicine but another related natural science (e.g. biology or human biology), you may conduct a scientific thesis work under supervision of a member of the Faculties of Veterinary Medicine or Medicine. These faculties also issue the titles Dr. med., Dr. med. dent., Dr. biol. hom. and Dr. med. vet.
