Credits / Assessment

Upon the successful completion of ISU Giessen 2010, you will be awarded credits [ECTS] by the University of Giessen. You will be awarded 6 credits for successfully passing the academic program and 3 credits for the participation in the German language courses.

Credits [ECTS]

The European Credit Transfer and Accumulation System [ECTS] is a student-centered system based on the workload required to achieve the objectives of a program. ECTS aim is to facilitate the recognition of periods of study abroad and thus to facilitate student mobility. The system is based on the assumption that 60 credits measure the workload for a full-time student during on academic year. The student workload of a full-time study program in Europe approximately amounts to 40 weeks per year and in this case one credit stands for 24 to 30 working hours. For more information on ECTS please visit the homepage of the European Union.

Please note: ECTS credits will only be awarded on passing all examinations (confer above). However, the granting of credits does not imply an evaluation, but only confirms attendance of seminars and achievement of minimum academic achievements.

Transcript of Records

The quality of your academic achievements will be recorded in a so-called Transcript of records, which will be issued to you (not to your home university!) at the end of the course. Upon your return to your home university, your academic achievements can be credited towards your degree.

Please note: ECTS is applied by most European institutions of higher education. The use of ECTS has also been agreed upon with some of our partner universities outside Europe. We recommended that you consult the person in charge of academic recognition of credits at your home institution on the transferability of ECTS before you enroll for ISU Giessen 2010. The ISU Giessen team will gladly provide you and your home institution with further information on ECTS and will help you get academic recognition for academic achievements at ISU Giessen 2010.
