About the University

The summer university program ist hosted by the Justus Liebig University Giessen, Germany. The Justus Liebig University Giessen combines up-to-date research and a tradition of 400 years of university teaching. Founded in 1607 as “Ludoviciana” by Ludwig V of Hessen-Darmstadt, the University now bears the name of one of its most renowned scientists, Justus Liebig.

Some 23,000 students are currently studying at the Justus Liebig University, making it a medium-sized university according to German standards. Every third resident of Giessen is a University or University of Applied Sciences student, which provides for student life atmosphere in the city of Giessen. Approximately 10% of today’s students come from abroad. A growing number of international study programmes are on offer.
