Using aromatic agents and functional ingredients in food, cosmetics, medicines, and consumer goods has a growing industrial development potential. The end products normally have plant-based origins. In order to establish sustainable production methods of the future, biotechnological methods with enzymes and microorganisms such as yeast, filamentous fungi, and bacteria are becoming increasingly significant. The basic possibilities here consist of implementing preliminary stages, frequently from the secondary metabolism of plants, and newly synthesizing them via microorganisms.
