Dr. Hui Qi from the Max Planck Institute will present the project
"Epigenetic control of pulmonary vessels and the right heart in development and disease: the role of Suv4-20h1".
Development of the cardiovascular and pulmonary systems is tightly interconnected. Many patients suffering from congenital heart disease (CHD) show right ventricle (RV) malformations and pulmonary hypertension (PH). We found that inactivation of the histone methyltransferase Suv4-20h1 in the secondary heart field leads to massive dilation of the RV, enlarged alveoli and defects in the lung vasculature. In this project we will decipher the role of Suv4-20h1 and its CHD related mutant (R143C) in the epigenetic network controlling co-development of the RV and the pulmonary vasculature to analyze a potential contribution of Suv4-20h1 to PH and right heart failure in adults.
