31.01.2018 von 18:15 bis 20:00 (Europe/Berlin / UTC100)
Please join us for our third meeting on Wed, Jan. 31st, at 6 pm in room B340. This time our discussion shall be on Nathaniel Hawthorne’s The Scarlet Letter (1850) – a classic in more than one way: Hawthorne’s alleged masterpiece, a key text of the “American Renaissance,” and a romance featuring one of American literature’s first feminist heroines, Heather Prynne.
The idea behind our project is a good old-fashioned Reading Club in which the “classics” are discussed in an informal setting. The Reading Club was inspired by three observations: one, there are way too many canonical literary works that we haven’t read – but probably should; two, it might be more fun to engage with these texts when you actually get the chance to discuss your reading experience afterwards; three, despite our passion for visual media, it is sometimes nice to return to the written word.
We are going to meet once a month. Drop in for just one meeting, or two, or all! If you have any questions, feel free to contact us at maren.walinski@anglistik.uni-giessen.de.
We’re looking forward to seeing you and until then, have fun reading!
