Vortrag "Humanitarian Intervention and the Responsibility to Protect in Turkish Foreign Policy"

In the context of its Guest Lecture Series in International Relations, the GGS Section "Norms and Change in World Politics" kindly invites all interested people to a lecture by Dr. Birsen Erdogan from Maastricht University on the concept and role of humanitarian intervention and Responsibility to Protect (R2P) in Turkish foreign policy. Humanitarian intervention and R2P are used as arguments for intervening in other states' conflicts and domestic politics both by democratic and autocratic regimes. Therefore, conceptions of protection, responsibility, and intervention/war are crucial for understanding conflict dynamics and decisions to intervene against the background of domestic politics. This lecture, followed by discussion, focuses on the Turkish case and Turkey's interventions in Middle Eastern conflicts.
