International Giessen Graduate Centre for the Life Sciences (GGL)

Welcome to the GGL
The GGL provides an interdisciplinary, concisely structured graduate programme for all life science disciplines at the Justus Liebig University, in the fields of Human, Dental and Veterinary Medicine, Psychology and Sport Sciences, Biology, Chemistry, Nutritional and Agricultural and Environmental Sciences. Based on our diversity of disciplines and nationalities, we have built a comprehensive concept for doctoral research where a topic-oriented doctoral project is embedded in the multidisciplinary research background of the GGL. We offer seminars, practical courses, research retreats and essential skills for academic and business careers.

GGL Call for Applications The GGL application portal will be open for applications for membership in the GGL as well as the PhD Programme of the Faculties of Medicine and Veterinary Medicine from 01 February 2023 to 01 March 2023. Please direct any inquiries concerning the online application procedure or the International Giessen Graduate Centre for the Life Sciences to office@ggl.uni-giessen.de . Invitation to the GGL Career Day 2023
The GGL Career Day is primarily aimed at doctoral candidates in the life sciences, master's students and postdocs and provides impulses for the career orientation of young scientists. This year we will explore how new professional opportunities have developed from the Covid pandemic. The topics will also include science management, research and development in industry, and crisis management in the public sector. A recruiter will explain how companies develop young talent in trainee programmes. You can also learn how to get your research funded if you stay in academia.

Graduation and Welcome Ceremony 2022
Our warmest congratulations to our Graduating Class of 2022! Caused by the COVID pandemic, you had to absolve a big part of your Curriculum online – that’s what made the Graduating Ceremony on 30 November 2022 special – as many of our 26 new Alumni were finally able to meet in person! The Ceremony was a great evening with many highlights including the festive handover of the certificates, the awarding of the Dr. Herbert Stolzenberg Publication Award for Research in the Life Sciences and the Welcome for 59 new GGL members.

Dr. Herbert Stolzenberg Publication Award for the Life Sciences
We are happy to announce the winners of the first Publication Award for Research in the Life Sciences: Marija Gredić, PhD, Cardio-Pulmonary Institute, Universities of Giessen and Marburg Lung Center, and Katrin Wiltschka, Institute of Soil Science and Soil Conservation, Justus Liebig University Giessen. Our Congratulations! The awardees were honoured by Gerhard Jung (Commerzbank AG), representative of the Dr. Herbert Stolzenberg Award, and Prof. Dr. Eveline Baumgart-Vogt, Director of the GGL during the recent welcome and graduation ceremony of the GGL.
