“America’s Other Army: How U.S. Diplomacy Changed After 9/11”

A graduate of Harvard University’s John F. Kennedy School of Government, Nicholas Kralev, is the only author and journalist ever to be given access to the inner sanctum of American diplomacy in Washington and around the world over several years. He visited more than 50 U.S. embassies and interviewed 600 career diplomats as well as Secretaries of State Hillary Clinton, Condoleezza Rice, Colin Powell and Madeleine Albright. For a decade, Mr. Kralev traveled with these U.S. secretaries of state to over 80 countries as a newspaper correspondent. He will share behind-the-scenes insights into high-level foreign policy decision-making as well as U.S. diplomatic work on the ground and how it affects the daily lives of millions of people around the world. He will show a more inclusive American diplomacy that has moved beyond interacting with governments and has engaged with the private sector, civil society and individual citizens. He will also examine how well equipped the U.S. Foreign Service is to address the challenges of the 21st century.
