Die Hürden der Antragstellung meistern/Master the hurdles of applying

In March 2020, the successful third-party funding program of the GGS goes into the fifth round

"Obtaining third-party funding is one of the most important tasks for scientists - and one of the greatest challenges," says Prof. Dr. Annette Kolb. She heads the third-party funded expert program of the Giessen Graduate Center for Social, Economic and Legal Sciences (GGS). It supports (future) postdocs in sharpening their skills in the acquisition of third-party funds and thus their scientific profile.

"This program offers the opportunity to learn tools for a strategically meaningful and structured application," says Kolb. The participants benefit from their broad expertise from 20 years of research experience, both as a third-party fundraiser and as an expert for the DFG, the FWF, the Alexander von Humboldt Foundation, the DAAD and the EU.

The fourth year of the third-party funded experts program was officially adopted on December 5. At the same time, twelve additional young scientists were accepted into the ranks of third-party funded experts. The ERC Starting Grant holder Dr. Benjamin de Haas reported on his experiences with the application and took away the participants' fear of contact with EU funding programs. Dr. informed about the support that EU applicants can receive at the JLU. Christian Veldman, EU research officer at JLU.

The program lives particularly from the community within the group, which faces the same goals and hurdles over nine months and supports itself in tandems. One of the participants said he particularly liked the interdisciplinarity of the participants. "This gives you feedback on your application from a non-specialist but qualified perspective."

The next round of the third-party funded experts program will begin in March 2020. Applications are possible until January 27, 2020.
