The IPP offers a clearly structured and research-oriented three-year doctoral programme of high academic standards. Extensive supervision and mentoring structures for German and international doctoral researchers will ensure that your time in the IPP is well spent!

 

Supervision and Mentoring

Extensive supervision and mentoring structures ensure that IPP members can always count on the support and guidance in all matters related to their PhD. The programme offers multi-track supervision and mentoring system revolving around professorial supervisors and peer-group coaching. The IPP offers a rich and promising environment for pursuing your PhD and guarantees support and guidance in all matters relating to your PhD throughout the three years of membership. Personal supervision is complemented by participation in our curriculum:

  • Regular colloquia with fellow doctoral researchers, professors and post-docs allow an ongoing discussion on projects from an early stage of inception to the submission of the PhD thesis.
  • Master Classes and Workshops with high-ranking academics from around the world give doctoral researchers the chance to present their projects to specialists in the field, benefit from their feedback, and establish valuable international contacts and cooperation.
  • A broad spectrum of courses conveys essential skills in time management, writing styles and techniques, the handling of software for publishing or managing bibliographies. Take a look at the current study calendar for further information.

 

Scholarship Advice

All IPP members may improve their chances for external funding with our scholarship advice, helping them to secure funding for their postgraduate studies. This service includes not only information about possible sponsors and their application deadlines, but also on how to write a better research proposal. The basics are detailed below. Travel Grants and Research Funding

Official members of the IPP are entitled to claim travel expenses for conferences and research trips in Germany and abroad. Unfortunately, these expenses cannot be covered for associate members. In order to receive financial support for conferences, you must either present a paper or be involved in organizing the event. Find out more here

 

Native Speaker Editorial Support

You are eligible to apply for a grant of up to €500 for the editorial support of a proof-reader.

 

German Courses

The IPP also supports the students' acquisition of competence in German, financing their German courses until C1 (though B1 is the level required by the Doctoral Degree Regulations in the Humanities, aka Promotionsordnungen der Geisteswissenschaften). The IPP Library

The IPP office (GCSC-building, 1st floor, Room 120) hosts a library with options for borrowing. The library holds a collection of pertinent books from the field of literary and cultural studies, including the complete ELCH-series, as well as seminal works of reference and handbooks.
