Klima-Umwelt-Mensch-Beziehungen
Das Arbeitsfeld „Klima-Umwelt-Mensch-Beziehungen“ umfasst ein großes Spektrum möglicher Fragestellungen und interdisziplinärer Ansätze. Zentrales Forschungselement unserer Arbeitsgruppe ist dabei die Dendrochronologie, also die Erforschung der Jahrringe von Bäumen. Als „Zeitzeugen“ beleuchten Jahrringe naturwissenschaftliche Aspekte des Baumwachstums und stellen gleichzeitig eine wichtige Analysemethode in historischen oder archäologischen Arbeiten dar. Damit deckt die Dendrochronologie eine klassische Schnittstelle geographischer Forschung ab und hilft die bestehenden Arbeitsfelder am Gießener Institut für Geographie zu verknüpfen.
Unsere Arbeit umfasst dabei die Probenentnahme an Bäumen in verschiedenen Ökosystemen, die Datierung und Analyse der Jahrringe im Labor sowie deren Verarbeitung und Interpretation in klimatologischen, ökologischen und historischen Kontexten.
