Research Interest
Assessment of plant architectural traits with relevance for yield and nitrogen use efficiency by 3D imaging
In Brassica napus complex and flexible plant architecture is present due to indeterminate growth of side branches and the extremely high compensation potential between yield components. So it is difficult to systematically dissect and quantify the effects of architectural traits for oilseed rape. Manual assessment of architectural traits (no. of branches, no. of siliques per branch, leaf inclination etc.) is extremely labor-intensive and error-prone. The aim is to use multispectral 3D imaging by calibrating this method for measuring e.g. the traits described above. Subsequently phenotyping of oilseed rape genotypes with contrasting behavior for plant architectural traits is planned.
