Staying informed/connected
Newsletter
- During the semester, every first Monday of the month our centre’s newsletter provides you with information about “Goings On” and research events from our curriculum for the upcoming two months.
- If you want to share a research event organised, e.g. within a research group, please send the event details to newsletter@gcsc.uni-giessen.de by the 15th of each month.
⚠️ Make sure to follow the communication lines for organising research events (particularly placing the event in our Study Calendar through the Curriculum team).
GCSC Social Media
Connect with us on our Socials and stay up to date on what is going on at our centre!
- 🌐 LinkedIn: On our main channel, you can, e.g., #MeetOurTeam and stroll down #Throwbacks from past events @International Graduate Centre for the Study of Culture (GCSC).
- ▶️ YouTube: Get more glimpses of research life at our centre and find some fascinating #Spotlights along with recordings from our Keynote Lecture Series @gcsc.
- ⓕ / 𝕏 Our accounts on Twitter/X @GCSC_JLU and Facebook are not active anymore. However, you can still drop by and stroll down our timeline with past activities.
- 💬 If you have something to share about research achievements like (project/network) collaborations, publications, conference/research trips, etc, let our Social Media Team know and discuss cross-posting. Of course, if you tag us in your own posts (on LinkedIn), we will always interact to boost visibility!
Microsoft Teams: Our Research Square

💡 What is the Research Square?
- Our Research Square brings together our research community to extend our communication and collaboration on a virtual platform, hosted by MS Teams.
- In different channels, we can share information about research related topics, exchange ideas, and work on collaborative projects.
- There are general channels related to research and community related updates, and individual channels for each GGK/GCSC research area, group, and section.
👥 How does it support our research community?
- Each channel functions as an interactive pin wall that allows to scroll through goings-on in a newsboard-like interface.
- MS Teams combines forums, chats, video conferencing, and task management options that may be useful for collaborative work and project management.
- It’s very easy to post announcements and information regarding topics and ideas for projects, formats, and events currently discussed in our research groups.
✅ What should you do to join?
- Activate your MS Teams account via your g-/j-Kennung. An MS Office access is provided through Microsoft 365 by JLU.
- Instructions on MS Teams can be found here or in the following document.
Each new cohort will be added automatically in November each year. If you have not activated your account then or joined the centre at another time of the year, please contact our Office Management.
Your Membership in a Nutshell
Your GCSC membership comes with certain expectations and obligations. To make the most of it, please make sure to do the following:
- 📧 Use your GCSC e-mail address
- ℹ️ Stay informed about what’s going on at the Centre, and let us know if you’re doing something exciting that you would like us to feature!
- 💬 Regularly attend your GCSC colloquium and our Keynote Lecture Series.
- 🤝 Commit to active participation in at least one Research Area/Working Group – remember that you and your research interests can shape the group’s direction!
- 🧠 Involve your supervisor or other researchers who you find interesting in the GCSC – organise an event with them, ask them to join a Research Area meeting or a conference, … We offer plenty of opportunities for you to get in touch with people you would like to meet.
- 💪 Get involved – join our Town Hall Meetings and General Assembly, run for one of our elected offices, come to GCSC staff’s office hours, and bring your ideas to the table.
✨ Support your colleagues – attend their events, read draft papers, join or found writing groups, go on coffee dates, plan conference panels together, … Writing a PhD takes a village, much like raising a child – be part of that village!
