Über mich

Annika J. Stendebach ist Doktorandin im Fach Geschichte an der Justus-Liebig-Universität Gießen und war Mitglied im International Graduate Centre for the Study of Culture (GCSC). Seit Mai 2025 ist sie als Referentin für Career Mentoring an der Frankfurt University of Applied Sciences für den International Career Service Rhein-Main (ICS RM) tätig. In dieser Funktion unterstützt und empowert sie Studierende mit internationalem oder interkulturellem Hintergrund beim Übergang vom Studium in den Beruf und begleitet sie im Rahmen eines strukturierten Mentoringprogramms. Zuvor war sie wissenschaftliche Mitarbeiterin am GCSS, koordinierte in dieser Funktion das Gießener Graduiertenzentrum für Geisteswissenschaften (GGK) und war mitverantwortlich für die Graduate Career Services. Vorausgegangen war eine Tätigkeit als wissenschaftliche Mitarbeiterin am Teaching Centre des GCSC, in der sie das Predoctoral Programme for the Study of Culture, das sich an promotionsinteressierte Studierende richtet, plante und koordinierte.

 

In ihrer Dissertation mit dem Arbeitstitel „Not Our Place?“ beschäftigt sich Annika mit der Entstehung der Jugend als eigene Kategorie auf der irischen Insel zwischen 1958 und 1983. Sie konzentriert sich auf Aspekte der (sozialen) Mobilität, der Emanzipation, der Sexualität und der Freizeit der „unspektakulären Jugend“, die sich im Umbruch befand, und untersucht, wie diese gewöhnlichen Jugendlichen Beziehungen (sowohl platonische als auch romantische) zwischen den Geschlechtern und Generationen innerhalb der sozialen Räume verhandelten. Indem sie sowohl lebensgeschichtliche Interviews als auch Walking Interviews durchführt und zeitgenössische Jugendmedien analysiert, beleuchtet ihre Arbeit sowohl die Produktion als auch die Reflexion des sozialen Wandels in dieser Zeit. Ihre Doktorarbeit wird von Prof. Dr. Ulrike Weckel (JLU Gießen) und Dr. Róisín Healy (University of Galway) betreut und von der Hans-Böckler-Stiftung, dem Institut des Deutschen Gewerkschaftsbundes (DGB) zur Förderung von Mitbestimmung, Forschung und Studium, finanziert. Außerdem erhielt Annika ein Stipendium des Deutschen Historischen Instituts in London, um in Irland für ihr Promotionsprojekt zu forschen und erhielt eine Einladung nach Mainz um ein einjähriges Abschlussstipendium des Leibniz-Instituts für Europäische Geschichte anzutreten.
 

Als Stipendiatin der Studienstiftung des deutschen Volkes studierte Annika Anglistik, Geschichte und Germanistik an der Johannes Gutenberg-Universität Mainz und der University of Galway, Irland. Ihr Auslandsjahr an der University of Galway, einschließlich eines von den Colleges of Arts, Social Sciences and Celtic Studies finanzierten Sommerstipendiums für ein Forschungsprojekt zur irischen Jugendkultur im 20. Jahrhundert. Das besagte Forschungspraktikum führte zu ihrer Bachelorarbeit „Sleepwalking through the Sixties?“ über die Studentenbewegung am University College Galway in den 1960er Jahren. Für ihre Masterarbeit „Rock'n'Roll Rebels“, ein historischer Vergleich der medialen Darstellung der „Teddy Boys“ in Irland und ihrem Pendant, der „Halbstarken“ in Deutschland, erhielt Annika dann einen Master of Education.
