Solid-state Batteries VII - From Fundamentals to Application

International Bunsen Discussion Meeting "Solid-state batteries (SSB VII)"

Dear Colleagues,

We cordially invite you to the 7th International Discussion Meeting on Solid-State Batteries (SSB VII)! This event continues our successful series of conferences held at the House of Logistics and Mobility (HOLM) near Frankfurt Airport since 2014.

Solid-state batteries (SSBs) are currently based on solid inorganic or solid polymer electrolytes and electrodes. Recently, hybrid concepts combining different electrolytes have also gained importance. As conventional liquid-electrolyte-based batteries gradually reach their limits, SSBs are attracting growing interest due to their potentially improved stability and safety, as well as the intrinsic separator function of the solid electrolyte. This key feature enables the use of metal anodes, thereby raising hopes for a boost in energy density. Despite the substantial technological potential of SSBs, numerous fundamental and physico-chemical challenges remain - particularly regarding transport processes, interfacial phenomena, and chemo-mechanics - along with the need for adapted cell designs. In addition, manufacturing SSBs may require entirely new processing concepts.

SSB VII provides a unique platform to discuss these challenges through a cross-disciplinary effort involving computational researchers, experimentalists, and engineers from both academia and industry. Following the tradition of this conference series, this event will emphasize intensive exchange and scientific debate. We welcome both oral and poster contributions.

Abstract submission will open in May 2026.
