Strengthening the Research Capacities for Extreme Weather Events in Romania | duration: 10/2024 - 09/2027

The SCEWERO project, coordinated by Babeș-Bolyai University (UBB) in Romania, brings together a consortium of partners from Italy, Belgium, Germany, and Romania. The project’s goal is to elevate UBB’s research capacity and reputation in climate science, focusing on improving early warning systems for extreme heat events in line with the EU’s climate adaptation and resilience objectives.

Through specialized training in advanced weather analysis, artificial intelligence applications, and science communication, SCEWERO aims to strengthen UBB’s expertise and research management capabilities. Additionally, the project includes a collaborative research initiative to apply new methodologies, ultimately creating a model that can be implemented in early warning systems across Europe. This work establishes a stronger basis for improved readiness and resilience against climate extremes.

The objective of “Consolidation of the research management capacity and administrative skills” Work Package, led by Elena Xoplaki, is to enhance research management capacity and administrative skills within the Institute of Geographical Research, Faculty of Geography at UBB. A specialized administrative working group will be established to support key areas such as financial management, grants management, reporting, and procurement.

JLU, in collaboration with UAntwerpen, will facilitate staff exchanges, hands-on training, and workshops aimed at building UBB's expertise in Horizon Europe project preparation and management. This Work Package will strengthen UBB's capacity to submit and manage high-quality project proposals, fostering sustainable and effective research administration practices.
