Interkulturelle Kompetenz (16 AE)

Fr. 13.03.2015: 09.00 bis 16.00 Uhr
Sa. 14.03.2015: 09.00 bis 16.00 Uhr

In recent years more and more international students have been admitted to German universities and more international study courses have been developed. At the same time, we have many students who have both a German and another cultural background, as their parents migrated to Germany. On the one hand, this is a wonderful opportunity to broaden the lecturers cultural and communicative horizons. On the other hand, this can be the source of misunderstandings and prejudices. In this workshop, we will explore how our cultural or multi-cultural background defines our behaviour, especially our communicative behaviour, e.g. body language, tone of voice, turn-taking points and eye contact. We aim to understand how misunderstandings in intercultural communications occur and how we can minimize them. Some models and maxims about communication will help us understand why we often misunderstand each other and how we can try to understand each other better. Feedback and video-feedback will help us get to know our own characteristics in communicative situations and adjust them for an international context. Lecturers and PhD students with a not-entirely-German cultural background are especially welcome to this course.
