This guest lecture will explore intersectionality at the nexus of disability and race. More specifically, the lecture will highlight how the behaviors of Black and autistic youth and adults are perceived and misperceived increasing the risk of negative outcomes in the context of interactions with law enforcement.

Elizabeth Drame is a Professor in the Department of Teaching and Learning at the University of Wisconsin-Milwaukee, where she prepares special educators and coordinates the Autism Spectrum Disorders Certificate Program. She is committed to fostering inclusive educational environments and engaging in critical analysis of inequitable practices and systems in her teaching, research and service. Elizabeth's research and practice endeavors focus on issues of equity and social justice for individuals with disabilities and involve the practical application of her research to community-based challenges. Here research approach involves meaningful collaboration between university scholars and community-based scholars using participatory research methods, where those involved in research are equal participants in the design, implementation and interpretation of the research in local, regional, and international educational contexts.
