Submission of written documents

Please note that you should preferably submit written documents such as proof of incapacity to take examinations or other forms digitally by email, but in this case please only submit them to us as pdfs, not as image files. The conversion of photos into pdfs is easy and free of charge on all common smartphones via standard apps (Google Drive, iCloud) or third-party apps (Adobe etc.).

Thesis submission (B.Sc., M.Sc.)

  1. The Examination Office will only receive one printed copy of the thesis and an electronically searchable version (pdf, max. 20 MB) by email. Please submit the printed copy by post (the date of the postmark applies) or drop it in the letterbox on site (janitor's entrance to the Chemistry Institute building HBR 17-19 or the deadline letterbox at the Examinations Office).
  2. Students must send the copies to the two reviewers themselves. Please discuss with your reviewers the form in which they would like to receive the theses (print, digital or both).
  3. It is essential that the thesis submission form (German) is completed, signed and submitted together with the thesis.
  4. You will not automatically receive your certificate by mail. If you would like to have your certificate sent to you, please send us a stamped, self-addressed envelope (C4) with a sturdy spine. If we do not have an envelope, we will inform you by email as soon as your certificate is ready for collection.

Deregistration (§ 25 General Regulations) vs. Withdrawal (§ 29 General Regulations) from exams

Since the special regulations of the degree programs sometimes contain special regulations for deregistration, you will find the relevant forms individually on the respective degree program pages in the Bachelor's (German) or Master's area (German).

You can apply to deregister from an examination (§ 25 General Regulations) up to 3 days before an examination. If you have already failed an examination or have applied to withdraw from an examination in accordance with § 29 (including for reasons of illness), it is no longer possible to deregister for subsequent dates. As a rule, you will be registered directly for the next possible examination date if you cancel your registration.

An application to withdraw from an examination (§ 29 General Registration) may be submitted at any time; in the case of a compulsory examination due to failure or previous withdrawal, and within three days before the examination, only withdrawal is possible. The application to withdraw from the examination is submitted to the chair of the examination board and must always be justified. The justification must be credible, e.g. in the case of illness by submitting a certificate of incapacity for the examination (German). After an approved withdrawal from the examination, you will be registered for the next possible examination date; deregistration in accordance with § 25 AllB is no longer possible for this and subsequent examination dates.

Application for B.Sc./M.Sc. certificates

You only need to apply for your certificate if module grades are entered after the thesis grade has been entered. In this case, we do not recognize that your certificate is ready to be written. A short email from you is sufficient. If the thesis grade is the last grade to be entered, it is not usually necessary to contact us, we will inform you when the certificate is ready for collection.

Applying for a thesis extension

If you need to apply for an extension of the write-up period for your thesis, please write a corresponding application which you and your supervisor sign. This application should include a justification and the period by which the processing time is to be extended. You submit this directly (or via us) to your examination board (chair). You can find the contact details of the examination board chair responsible for you on the respective degree program pages in the Bachelor's (German) or Master's area (German).

Minor/elective subject Economics (Faculty 02)

All students who take modules from economics as a minor or elective subject must register during the FB 02 registration periods. Subsequent registration through the Examination Office Natural Sciences is not possible. If there are any problems in this regard, please contact the Examination Office and Study Coordination of Faculty 02 [Email].

The examination dates and registration deadlines for FB 02 courses can be found on the website of the Examination Office and Study Coordination of Faculty 02.

Certificate of incapacity for examination (medical certificate)

If you are absent from an examination due to illness, fill out the lower part of the form for a certificate of incapacity for the examination (German) from your family doctor/specialist and print it out. Have the rest of the form completed by your doctor and submit it to the Examination Office. Certificates of incapacity for work are not accepted as proof of incapacity for examinations.

For oral examinations, always inform the examiners in addition to the Examinations Office. Please submit certificates for partial examinations to the module coordinators. Certificates for module-completing examinations must be submitted to the Examination Office.

Transcript of Records

The Examination Office does not issue transcripts of records in German. These can be printed out online in FlexNow in self-service.
