Virtual Reality Technology

A brief overview of virtual reality technology

Virtual reality (VR) is an interactive, virtual environment that is generated in real time by a computer. Such an environment can be displayed in a cave system, by projecting the environment onto the walls of the room, or by means of a screen (HMD) attached to the face. The current form of the HMDs are different virtual reality glasses that display a separate image for both eyes. This stereoscopic perspective provides the user with a depth display. The virtual environment adapts to interactions, changes in perspective and head movements in real time.

The interaction with the simulated world then takes place through special input devices (e.g. controllers) that vary between manufacturers and technologies.
