Research Areas
The research focusses on the analysis of politics conducted by international and transnational institutions (global governance). At the centre of the research is the efficiency of governance, and and normative questions of democratic legitimacy and distributive justice. In regard to the methodological approach quantitative and qualitative methods are used to the same extent. Particular meaning is attributed to the differentiation of actors in global politics. In global governance, next to state actors, non-state actors take an increasingly exposed role as origin of issues and/ or co-regulators. The analysis of different forms of governance particularly focusses on international environmental and climate politics, different governance forms of global dietary politics and the position of religion in global politics. Another focus point is the analysis of transnational security threats, with particular emphasis to the contribution of ecological devastation to armed conflicts and  the peaceful resolution, including preventive measures, of potential disputes.
