The interdisciplinary research network “Geschlecht – Macht – Staat” (GMS) (Gender – Power Relations – State) investigates the cultural history of power relations under the aspect of gender and records processes of gendering in the interplay of power relations and state. Participating researchers from the universities of Marburg, Gießen and Münster as well as the Herder Institute for Historical Research on East Central Europe are experts in the fields of literary, cultural and media studies as well as in history and political science, art history and psychology. In several subprojects, they investigate the interactions between medializations, social practices and normative framings in the ascription and negotiation of gendered (state) power in its historic transformation from the early modern period to the present. From July 2021 onwards, the project will be funded by a grant from Forschungscampus Mittelhessen (FCMH). The project aims to establish a DFG research group.
