Historical Theology

Church, theology, piety, and belief have their history. Historical Theology deals with the development of Christian belief, life, and thinking and the course of the Christian church from the end of the apostolic age to the present. The research and presentation of this process and its socio-cultural parameters, as well as reflecting continuity, reprobations, breaks and new beginnings of Christianity are part of the working field of Historical Theology.

Historical Theology is a theological discipline, but it deals with its subject from a historical perspective. It shares its methodology with the general historical and cultural sciences.

In the courses and on excursions, various aspects of the history of the church, theology, and piety are presented in examples. The research focuses on topics of regional and national history of the church history of Hesse and Nassau, medieval theological history, and the Christian spirituality of various centuries.
