Postgraduate programme for teachers in the subject “Islamic Religion.”

The state government has created the preconditions for confessional Islamic religious education at public schools. The associations DITIB Landesverband Hessen (DITIB State Association Hesse) and Ahmadiyya Muslim Jamaat in der Bundesrepublik Deutschland e.V (Ahmadiyya Muslim Jamaat in the Federal Republic of Germany Registered Association) have been recognised as cooperation partners. It is up to them to give a teaching license to the graduates of the undergraduate programme as well as the postgraduate course.

Since March 2013, the JLU, together with the Hessian Ministry of Education, has been offering a one-year postgraduate course for teachers of Muslim faith who are already teachers in Hesse. They attend lectures under the chair "Islamic Theology".

The postgraduate course covers three topics: (1) Theological basics and main sources of Islam, (2) Faith practice in past and present, and (3) Islamic religious education and didactics. The one-year postgraduate course consists of a total of 240 lessons; the course comprises lectures (partially as blocks) and private studies.

The praesidium of the JLU considers this programme a significant extension of its subject area in the teaching profession. It sees in it an important contribution to the development of the subject "Islamic religion" in Hessian elementary schools and thus to the efforts for the social integration of fellow citizens of Muslim faith.
