Eine kollektive Diskursanalyse

Pirkko Husemann asked some former students of the Institute of Applied Theatre Studies three questions:

What is your relation to festivals?

What is your worst and/or best memory of DISKURS?

What was "in" and what was "out" during your time in Gießen?

The answers become part of a "collective DISKURS analysis". For this purpose Pirkko Husemann uses the same method of cultural studies which might have inspired the nomenclature of the founding fathers of DISKURS. Thus Pirkko Huseman goes back to the roots of DISKURS and the Institute for Applied Theatre Studies - with regard to terms, topics and individuals - and focuses on questions of art production, art reception and art presentation as well as the practical problems of an art festival. Knowing DISKURS only from hearsay Pirkko Husemann initiates a collective self-reflection. Using the answers of those who experienced DISKURS directly she creates a picture of DISKURS which is "critical" in the sense of Nancy who defines critique as nothing given and stable but a dynamic process.

Pirkko Husemann is currently superintendent of the dance section at the theatre Hebbel am Ufer in Berlin. She pursued theatre, film and media studies in Frankfurt am Main and received her PhD from the Free University of Berlin with a thesis on "choreography as a critical practice". She collaborated with Xavier Le Roy on the pieces "E.X.T.E.N.S.I.O.N.S." and "Project" and was a member of the label "frankfurter küche" alongside Kattrin Deufert and Thomas Plischke. Her bibliography includes "Ceci est de la danse - Choreographien von Meg Stuart, Xavier Le Roy und Jerome Bel" (2002), "Knowledge in Motion: Perspectives of Artistic and Scientific Research in Dance" (2007, together with Sabine Gehm and Katharina von Wilke) and her PhD thesis "Choreografie als kritische Praxis - Arbeitsweisen bei Xavier Le Roy und Thomas Lehmen" (transcript 2009). She worked as a research assistant for „Tanzkongress Deutschland“ (2006) and is a member of the artistic board of the international dance festival "Tanz im August“ in Berlin (together with Ulrike Becker, Matthias Lilienthal, André Thériault and Marion Ziemann).
