Ruth Schmidt

Ruth Schmidt initiates artistic processes together with others and writes texts of various kinds.
Since 2023 she has been an artistic researcher at the Institute for Applied Theater Studies.
With the collective ScriptedReality, which she founded with friends in 2014, she has realized numerous works that develop new formats on the border between performance, intervention, and play and create situations that enable the unpredictable. They have been shown at various venues and festivals (including Mousonturm Frankfurt, FFT Düsseldorf, Ringlokschuppen Ruhr, HAU Berlin, Veem House Amsterdam, Gessnerallee Zurich, Mladi Levi Festival Ljubljana, Bâtard Festival Brussels, works at work Copenhagen and many more) (www.scriptedreality.net).
In 2022/23 she was involved in the conception of "IMPLANTIEREN - Festival of Shared Practices".
In 2018-23 she worked as a research assistant in the master's program "Artistic Research" at the Theater Institute of the Ruhr University Bochum. Her PhD project The Cave, the Clouds, the Sea. Imaginary Infrastructure (AT) investigates three central theatrical scenes of European knowledge production and possible performative counter-practices.
Ruth is interested in labor, production and care relations, materialist epistemologies and history of science, clouds, digital spaces, strange ecologies and the transformation of our cities. She develops and tests formats between teaching, performance, and play, researches queerfeminist writing and knowledge practices and collaborative forms of world-making.
She studied philosophy and literature in Leipzig and applied theater studies in Giessen.
