On this page you will find information about Giessen as a place for studying Geography. Each semester, we welcome students from various countries who take part in the Erasmus+ exchange program driven by the European Union.

Giessen and its University

Giessen is located in the Heart of Germany. The Justus-Liebig University in Giessen, founded 1607, is a modern university with an international spirit and sense of tradition. Its student population of around 20.000 makes it the second largest university in the State of Hesse.

How to apply for a study period

Please contact the departmental ECTS coordinators at your university for first information. There, you may receive feedback from students who had previously studied in Giessen, or who are currently studying at Justus-Liebig-University.

If you decide to apply for a period here in Giessen, please complete the relevant ECTS application forms. Copies of these forms can be obtained through the office of the ECTS co-ordinator of your home university: an ECTS Application Form, a Learning Agreement. a Transcript of Records and – if you like – an Application Form for Accommodation in a student hall of residence.

Applicants who have been accepted and also applied for university accommodation will receive notification about allocated housing in September (for the winter semester) and in February/March (for the summer semester).
