What are the effects of foreign genotypes in new habitats?
In road side construction, replantation of habitat
specific species is common practice. However, as result of cost savings,
the seeds most often are of foreign origin and hence represent foreign
genotypes. In the course
of this project we investigate the influence of foreign genotypes upon
native gene pools. Hereby we investigate, if native genotypes are better
adapted to native ecological niches and therefore are fitter and
genetically more diverse than foreign progenities,
if both geenpools hybridize, or one displaces the other – hence is
fitter and reproductively more successful.
