Wicton Farm

Anthony and Lindy Howlett founded Wicton Farm in 1974 with just 40 dairy cows and 150 acres. Today the farm has grown to 60 dairy cows, 12 heifers and 185 acres, and has been fully organic since 1999. Wicton Farm runs a "cow with calf" system, allowing calves to stay with their mothers, and follows a holistic, regenerative approach that includes agroforestry, solar power and a minimal-machinery policy.

Our tour began in the empty milking parlour, where the herd's daily routine was explained, before continuing out to the meadow to see the cows grazing in the open air. A group photo was taken with the farm's oldest cow in the background – a 19-year-old retired dairy cow now living out her days in peace. Back in the barn, we listened to an engaging talk about the farm's philosophy and history, accompanied by a wonderful shared meal in the very same space. A visit to the farm's self-service shop rounded off an inspiring and memorable day at Wicton Farm.
