-
The professorship for laboratory animal science and animal welfare represents the subjects of laboratory animal science, animal welfare, and ethology in research and teaching. In veterinary education and later professional life, veterinarians are particularly committed to animal welfare. The ethics code of veterinarians (Codex Veterinarius, TVT) states:
Veterinarians, in addition to their diverse public responsibilities, should use their expertise and fulfill the expert role assigned to them by the Animal Welfare Act to particularly elevate the general standard of animal welfare for all animals under human care and continuously improve the health and well-being of the animals.
The teaching concepts and content of the professorship for laboratory animal science and animal welfare are designed to fulfill these special veterinary responsibilities.
