Career Service

Young researchers who have completed their doctoral degree after years of diligent effort often undergo a period of personal upheaval and professional (re-)orientation. This is why our Career Services offer you the necessary tools – early on – to prepare for entering the workforce.

We recommend that PhDs begin to purposefully navigate this transition and earn the necessary qualifications before completing their dissertation; doing so will increase your chances of success on the job market, whether you are planning on an academic career or have already decided to follow a career path outside the bounds of research and teaching. Particularly for those who intend to remain within academia, it is essential to reflect on your role within the university system, thus improving your odds of clinching it with the assistance of coaching and strategic planning.

Your Career Planning

We work in cooperation with the Federal Employment Agency and other partners to conceive and implement new strategies in order to offer doctoral researchers an optimum foundation for entering a profession:

  • Get to know Career Service's current offers at the Graduate Centre and at JLU!
  • You can also find on our site a selection of current open positions in the academic system and beyond.
  • During office hours for doctoral researchers, we will provide individualized guidance for taking the necessary steps towards your career – or, for starters, for choosing the right workshops. Should you have more ideas or become interested in the newest item on our line-up of regular offerings, contact us directly.

You want to stay up-to-date on the latest? ...or just stay connected?

If you are a former student of JLU Giessen who would like to contribute insights from your own career experiences, or if you are a human resources employee interested in our institution, we would love to hear from you by email or phone.

Suggestions, constructive criticism, and of course success stories are all vital as we develop and further conceptualize our offerings.
